Welcome to the Kingdom of Bhutan. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your guide and driver before embarking on a scenic drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. The journey follows the picturesque Paro and Wang Chhu valleys, offering your first glimpse of Bhutan's pristine forests, traditional villages, and breathtaking Himalayan landscapes.

After checking in to your hotel, begin your exploration of Thimphu, where centuries-old traditions blend seamlessly with modern life. Colourful prayer flags flutter in the mountain breeze while monks in crimson robes and locals dressed in the traditional Gho and Kira create an atmosphere that is uniquely Bhutanese.

Highlights

• National Memorial Chorten – Built in memory of His Majesty the Third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, this sacred monument is one of Bhutan's most revered religious sites and an important place of daily worship for local devotees.
• Buddha Dordenma – Standing 51 metres (169 feet) tall, this magnificent bronze statue overlooks the Thimphu Valley and offers sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
• Tashichho Dzong – The majestic fortress-monastery houses the offices of His Majesty the King, the Royal Government, and the Central Monastic Body. It is regarded as one of the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture.
• Centenary Farmers' Market (Weekends only) – Experience the vibrant local culture as farmers gather to sell fresh organic produce, cheeses, spices, handicrafts, and traditional Bhutanese products.

Overnight: Thimphu

Following breakfast, depart Thimphu for the beautiful drive to Punakha, Bhutan's former capital. The journey winds through forests of pine, fir, and rhododendron before reaching the breathtaking Dochula Pass.

Highlights

• Dochula Pass (3,100m) – One of Bhutan's most scenic mountain passes, offering spectacular views of the snow-capped Eastern Himalayas on clear days. Visit the iconic 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and the elegant Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, both built in honour of Bhutan's monarchy and national heritage.
• Punakha Dzong – Built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, Punakha Dzong is widely regarded as Bhutan's most beautiful fortress. Located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, it serves as the winter residence of the Central Monastic Body.
• Punakha Suspension Bridge – Enjoy a leisurely walk across one of Bhutan's longest suspension bridges, beautifully adorned with colourful prayer flags and offering spectacular views of the river valley below.

Overnight: Punakha

Today is dedicated to discovering the rich history, spirituality, and natural beauty of Punakha Valley.

Highlights

• Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility) – Enjoy a gentle walk through picturesque rice fields and traditional villages to this revered temple dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley, affectionately known as the "Divine Madman." The temple is one of Bhutan's most important pilgrimage sites.
• Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten – A scenic hike through terraced rice fields leads to this magnificent hilltop temple, built by the Queen Mother to promote peace and harmony. The panoramic views over Punakha Valley are simply unforgettable.
• Wangdue Phodrang Dzong – Visit the beautifully restored fortress overlooking the Punatsang Chhu River. Originally constructed in 1638, the dzong remains an enduring symbol of Bhutan's cultural heritage and architectural excellence.

Overnight: Punakha

After breakfast, continue your journey into the heart of central Bhutan, travelling through forested mountains to the spectacular Phobjikha Valley, one of the country's most beautiful glacial landscapes.

Highlights

• Phobjikha Valley – A pristine U-shaped glacial valley bordering Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, renowned for its exceptional natural beauty. During winter (late October to February), it becomes the seasonal sanctuary of the endangered Black-necked Cranes migrating from the Tibetan Plateau.
• Gangtey Goemba Monastery – Founded in the 17th century, this important Nyingma monastery overlooks the valley and is admired for its spiritual significance and traditional Bhutanese architecture.
• Gangtey Nature Trail – Enjoy one of Bhutan's most scenic walks through forests, wetlands, open meadows, and traditional villages while taking in the valley's peaceful surroundings.
• Black-necked Crane Information Centre (Seasonal) – Learn about the conservation of the endangered Black-necked Crane and the unique ecosystem of Phobjikha Valley.

Overnight: Gangtey

Following breakfast, depart Gangtey and journey back to Paro through Bhutan's spectacular mountain scenery. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking landscapes of forests, rivers, mountain passes, and charming villages.

• Rinpung Dzong (Fortress of the Heap of Jewels) – One of Bhutan's most impressive fortress-monasteries, celebrated for its remarkable architecture, intricate woodwork, and rich history.
• National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong) – Housed within a beautifully restored 17th-century watchtower, the museum showcases Bhutan's rich heritage through fascinating collections of sacred art, traditional textiles, historical artefacts, and natural history.
• Kyichu Lhakhang – One of Bhutan's oldest and holiest Buddhist temples, dating back to the 7th century and playing a significant role in the introduction of Buddhism to the Himalayas.

Overnight: Paro

Today is devoted to Bhutan's most iconic landmark, the legendary Taktsang Monastery, popularly known as Tiger's Nest.

Perched dramatically on a granite cliff approximately 900 metres above the Paro Valley, this sacred monastery is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the Himalayan region. According to Buddhist tradition, Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) arrived here on the back of a flying tigress in the 8th century to meditate and establish Vajrayana Buddhism in Bhutan.

Highlights

• Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest) – Embark on a rewarding hike through fragrant pine forests adorned with colourful prayer flags. The round-trip hike takes approximately 4–5 hours, including time to explore the monastery and enjoy refreshments at the viewpoint café overlooking the spectacular cliffside sanctuary.
• Drukgyel Dzong – Visit the beautifully restored fortress built in 1649 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to commemorate Bhutan's victory over Tibetan invasions. On clear days, admire magnificent views of Mount Jomolhari (7,326m), Bhutan's third-highest peak.
• Traditional Bhutanese Farmhouse (Optional) – Experience authentic Bhutanese hospitality while learning about local customs, traditional farming, and rural life.
